Day 21 Wednesday 26.11.2008 Position: S 74° 25.86' W 009° 14.88' Distance: 10km Elevation: 2070m Yesterday went so well and today everything seemed to be against us. All day long fridged winds from the south and snow conditions like walking on soggy marshmallows. Coupled with the rather steep slope we are on, it's amazing that we did get 10km. We had to stop a bit earlier because the winds got very strong with tons of blowing snow - and we had to get the tent up still! Blowing snow is like blowing sand - it gets into everything, except it is a lot colder... We have 17 days to reach our depot near the 81 degree latitude - that's still about 700km! To reach the top of the Plateau we have to climb another 130 to 200m - it is difficult to say with the satellite map we got. On paper the odds that we'll make it to our depot do not look so hot - and yet Armin and I have a calm and very good feeling that we will get there safe and in time. What can we tell you about the wind, which we haven't yet? Well, meanwhile we can use wind from pretty much any direction except from the south, like today...
