Day 17 Saturday 22.11.2008 Position: S 73° 55.6' W 009° 39.8' Distance: 21km Elevation: 1470m We had the opportunity to kite for at least 2 hrs today, using our UltraLight BigBoy (5.8 sq. Meter sail with 200 ft lines) in the lightest possible kiting winds. At times it was more kite walking but since the surface is extremely soft now it is better than manhauling anytime! :) It was also important to clear residual trauma from our previous 'hellride' - today's 2 hrs were enjoyable and fun. To answer another question, we do not see the night sky and thus no stars since the sun doesn't set and stays above the horizon 24 hrs. But we are sure the night sky must be unbelievable, except the -60 to -70 unbearable. The mountains are in front of us the whole time now and keep getting bigger! This makes us a little nervous as well since we are still 2 full days of manhauling away from the base and the surface makes the sled appear 3x as heavy. One step at the time...
