Day 9 Thursday, 14.11.2008 Position: S72°03,91' W008°46,91' Distance: 15km Elevation: 660m Fooled by the antarctic winds again! We noticed the elevation in the morning as the thermometer showed -30°. We started walking until about 1pm, when we noticed very favorable easterly winds. Being smarter than the last time (or so we thought...) we decided to walk for another 20mins to make sure the wind had consistancy. Excited, we changed into our kiting attire, which takes about 30-40min. We were almost ready for takeoff when the wind died down a bit. Disbelief, but we lifted the kites in the air and after 30 seconds the kites just fell out of the sky - as it turns out, no more wind for the rest of the afternoon. As my kite crashed the lines got into a horrible mess and Armin and I spent well over an hour with sorting out the bloody mess! Alltogether two and a half hours wasted for not much except Armin being ready to kill the kite (see picture) and Dieter laughing hysterically. Not wanting to feel the whole day was wasted, we hauled @$$ for the rest of the afternoon and got a very respectable distance in the end. So now boiling water for dinner and regroup.
