Day 7![]() Wednesday, 12.11.2008 Position: S71°47,3' W008°39,9' Distance: 11km Elevation: 230m Yesterday, just after putting up camp and sending out our dispatch, very strong southwesterly winds came up. They got stronger overnight (litttle sleep due to getting used to the noise and tent shaking) and continued with full force all day! Due to our current heading this meant very strong headwinds as we are beginning our first ascent to 1200m. After about one hour in, the sastrugis became too difficult too traverse with short skins on our skis and we have now started to manhaul with full length mohair skins. If there are still no kiting conditions, the next few days will be slow and physically demanding. Only the flock of snow petrels who accompanied us for a short while today seemed to fully enjoy the storm without any resistance or preconceived notions.... 12 Nov, 08 - 18:50 | Dispatch library Aloha Antarctica – Never again?
